Sage Cabin is located in Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve on a cleared campsite surrounded by forest. Each of our Haliburton Forest Micro Cabins are about 100 meters apart from one another, offering guests relative privacy with the comfort of knowing others are close by. All three cabins are identical in design and come with their own fire pit, BBQ and picnic table. (If you are looking for a more remote/private cabin experience, consider looking at our Wilderness Cabins for rent.)

As part of our partnership with Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve, our guests have access to 100,000 acres of wilderness for each day of their stay. Enjoy over 400km of hiking & mountain biking trails right outside your door from April through November, or take advantage of an included snowmobile pass once the snow falls to access these unique, professionally groomed trails during the winter months.

Please keep in mind that after Deer Hunting Season in mid-November, this cabin is hike-in or snowmobile/ATV access only. We provide a sled and snowshoes for the hike-in, but please note, this is a moderate ~20 minute hike. We recommend packing lightly for the hike-in. However, for an additional fee, guests can opt into our shuttling service from mid-November to mid-March to be shuttled to and from the cabin when they check-in and check-out – no hike required!

Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so you’ll need to be mindful of your consumption during your stay. There is a back-up generator when solar power is low.

SNOWMOBILING & RENTALS

In the winter months, our Micro Cabins are only drive in accessible by snowmobile or ATV. Hiking to the cabin is also permitted. Once inside the property, guests may hike or snowshoe the many frozen lakes onsite or along the snowshoe-only trails, but most trails are dedicated to exclusively to snowmobiles. Haliburton Forest’s unique location at the top of the Algonquin Dome makes it the ultimate destination for winter ATVing conditions!

The snowmobile season typically runs early December until mid-March but this ultimately depends on weather conditions. Snowmobile passes are included in the nightly rate, so guests are welcome to bring their own snowmobiles or ATVs or rent them directly from Haliburton Forest. Snowmobile rental rates start at $274 per snowmobile per day. To learn more or to book a snowmobile for your stay, call Haliburton Forest at 1-800-631-2198 or go to: https://www.haliburtonforest.com/book-online/book-snowmobile-rental/.

We do not guarantee snowmobile rental availability. If you intend to rent a snowmobile during your stay, we highly recommend reaching out to Haliburton Forest to inquire about rental availability shortly after booking your Cabinscape stay.

FAQs

What makes this location awesome?

This Cabinscape is located in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario, an area best known for their rolling hardwood forests, pristine lakes and extensive wetlands grounded firmly on the Canadian Shield. Our micro cabins are located right within Haliburton Forest’s Base Camp, giving you access to their extensive trail system; delicious meals at their Cookhouse Restaurant; Camp Store; and much more. The picturesque waterfront town of Haliburton is a 25-minute drive away. Take a day trip for great shopping, cafes, restaurants and events.

When is check-in and check-out?

Entry is by lock-box and key. Check in time is 4 pm. Check-out is 12 pm.

What is the shuttle service?

From mid-November to mid-May this cabin is just over a 1km hike-in, as the road is closed to accommodate ATVs and snowmobiles on the trails. As a result, we are excited to offer a ATV shuttling service for guests who prefer not to hike in, but do not have access to their own snowmobile/ATV. This shuttle service is only available from mid- November until the road closes to snowmobiles in mid-March. At an additional cost of $75/reservation, guests and their gear will be transported to their cabin via snowmobile or ATV. Please note: the fee includes space for up to two individuals and one cargo sled of gear. Additional guest/gear trips may incur additional fees.

The service runs in 30 minute increments from 1PM-4PM for check-in and 9AM-11:30AM for check out. Guests are able to select their preferred shuttle time through their welcome page which is sent exactly one week in advance of a given booking.

What if I need assistance during my stay?

We are always just a text away for any questions or assistance. Our on-call property manager lives nearby and can be available on-site when needed.

What should I bring?

  • Your own food & drink
  • Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets
  • Firewood
  • Bug repellent
  • Hand sanitizer

Does this cabin have running water or a shower?

Our Micro cabins do not have running water. We provide 40L of water for dish washing and drinking. Hot showers are available at the shared comfort station nearby at Base Camp

Can I bring additional guests?

No. This cabin can only accommodate up to 2 guests plus 1 pup. The base rental rate includes 2 guests. If you’re bringing a pup, please select the “Pet Pal” option at checkout.

Is there WIFI/Cell Service?

There is NO WIFI access at this cabin. There is reliable cell reception. However, access to data is slow and spotty. Don’t plan on having a Zoom meeting here.

What electronics can I use at the cabin?

There is one outlet in the kitchen for charging your phone and laptop but charging multiple phones / laptops will drain the cabin’s battery quickly. We DO NOT recommend using the outlet for high voltage items like hairdryers, coffee makers, kitchen appliances, etc. This is a low voltage outlet and power outages will result. Health-related items like CPAP machines cannot be accommodated at our cabins. Feel free to reach out to bookings@cabinscape.com for clarification on what machines/electronics can be used at our cabins.

Do you provide canoe rentals?

Canoe rentals are available from the Main Office at Haliburton Forest for $25-$35/per day. Canoes can be picked up from the Main Office. They do not deliver these items to cabins. Guests must transport canoes themselves to whatever lake they want to paddle: they provide all gear including paddles, personal flotation devices (pfds), safety kits as well as ropes and foams to tie canoes on to vehicles.

Fore more info or to book your canoe, visit the Haliburton Forest Website here.

Do you provide snowmobile rentals?

From December to mid March (weather dependant), snowmobiles are available for rent at Haliburton Forest’s Main Office. Driver’s must have a valid driver’s license or the equivalent Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s License.

Cabinscape guests receive $49/off per day their vehicle rentals. Snowmobile rentals must be made separately from your cabin accommodation, directly with Haliburton Forest. Rates range from $274.00/day during weekdays (Monday-Thursday) to $324.00/day on weekends (Friday-Sunday). Please arrange your snowmobile rental well in advance of arriving for your visit. We recommend calling Haliburton Forest (1-800-631-2198) to make your reservation and discuss your options. You can pick up your rental the morning before check-in to use the trails for the day, or in the evening of your check-in (between 4:00-4:30 pm). Please note, a $3,500 returnable damage deposit will be required for snowmobile rentals.

Can I bring my own snowmobile or ATV?

For guests with access to their own snowmobile or ATV’s, a valid drivers license (or Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s License) is required. Ownership and insurance per vehicle must also be presented to Haliburton Forest staff in the Main Office upon check in. (Side-by-side vehicles are not permitted in the forest.)

Are there bugs & critters!?

You bet. Depending on the season, you’ll encounter bugs of all sorts. Bugs, rodents and wildlife are a reality of the wilderness. Guests should come prepared with bug spray and proper protective attire. Ticks have also been a major issue across Ontario. Please do your research ahead of time and learn how to properly check yourself for ticks.

While we do our best to protect our cabins from pesky critters by having them seasonally sprayed, critters can sometimes find their way into the cabin. That’s why it’s important to keep your food sealed and stored. If you’re squeamish around bugs or critters, you may want to consider another kind of getaway.

Is this cabin pet friendly?

Yes! You are more than welcome to bring your furry friends for an extra fee of $25/per night. Select the “Pet Pal” option at checkout. Up to two dogs per booking is permitted. (We do not make exceptions to this rule).
