Burdock Cabin
From: $199.00
Kirkfield, Ontario
1 Queen Bed + 1 Loft Twin Bed | 160sq/ft | Guests age 6+ suggested
Burdock cabin is located on a magnificent 230 acre property overlooking a sparkling blue, spring-fed lake (the result of a former limestone quarry). This incredibly unique and otherworldly landscape is just 1.5 hours from Toronto. Our pristine lake is home to 5 lakeside cabins, each on its own big, beautiful and secluded lot – with dreamy desert-like vistas.
All lakeside cabins are identical in design and come with their own fire pit, paddle board, BBQ, picnic table, two Muskoka chairs, and a private dock at the water’s edge. Paddleboards are swapped out for two complimentary adult-sized pairs of snowshoes in the winter months.
Due to the realities of this site and the safety risks involved, we do not recommend this cabin for families with children under the age of 6. Pups are also only permitted on specific “pet-friendly” sites. See the “Be Aware” section below for more detail.

Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so you’ll need to be mindful of your consumption during your stay. There is a back-up generator when solar power is low.

BE AWARE
There are various safety hazards at this site that make it unsafe for small children. Deep water, steep stairs, cliff faces without barriers and rocky pathways could pose risks for children without parental supervision. This location is not recommended for children under 6 years of age, please take heed when bringing your little ones to this site. Pets are also only permitted at certain sites for these reasons.
FAQs
What makes this location awesome?
This Cabinscape is located on Kirkfield Lake, a body of water sustained by 3 underground fresh water springs. This gorgeous lake is clean and crystal clear with a blueness seldom seen anywhere in Ontario.
This geologically unique property (the site of a former limestone quarry) offers ample opportunities to connect with nature. Snowshoe, hike or run the trails on-site that meander through forests and wildflower meadows. Swim, paddleboard, snorkel or get out and cycle the roads and rail trails in the area.
Our property is adjacent to the Trent Severn Waterway system which connects to several larger lakes in the Kawartha Lakes region, making it an excellent basecamp for day-long expeditions on the water.
How far apart are the cabins?
Each cabin is approximately 150 meters away from it’s neighboring cabin(s). Our cabins have been strategically placed to provide as much privacy as possible, however you will likely hear others out and about on the lake and property. Sites are big, beautiful and protected, neighboring guests are not permitted on your private site.
When is check-in and check-out?
Entry is by lock-box and key. Check in time is 4 pm. Check-out is 12 pm.
What if I need assistance during my stay?
We are always just a text away for any questions or assistance. Our on-call property manager lives nearby and can be available on-site when needed.
What should I bring?
- Your own food & drink
- Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets
- Firewood
- Bug repellent
- Hand sanitizer
Does this cabin have running water or a shower?
Our water is pumped from the lake. Running water is shut off when temperatures dip below freezing. This normally happens mid-October but can vary each year. When running water is shut off, we provide 40L of water for dish washing and drinking. All taps (including shower taps) are turned off. Water is turned back on before the May Long Weekend.
Please note, that running water will be shut off on October 15th.
Can I bring additional guests?
This cabin can accommodate up to 3 guests. The base rental rate includes 2 guests. A third guest is an additional $25/per night. Please check off 3 guests at checkout.
Is there WIFI/Cell Service?
There is NO WIFI access at this cabin. There is reliable cell reception. However, access to data is slow and spotty. Don’t plan on having a Zoom meeting here.
Are there bugs or critters?!
You bet. Depending on the season, you’ll encounter bugs of all sorts. Bugs, rodents and wildlife are a reality of the wilderness. Guests should come prepared with bug spray and proper protective attire. Ticks have also been a major issue across Ontario. Please do your research ahead of time and learn how to properly check yourself for ticks.
While we do our best to protect our cabins from pesky critters by having them seasonally sprayed, critters can sometimes find their way into the cabin. That’s why it’s important to keep your food sealed and stored. If you’re squeamish around bugs or critters, you may want to consider another kind of getaway.
Why are children under 6 not recommended here?
This location may pose several safety hazards for young children, including steep cliff faces without barriers, rocky pathways, and deep water. Unfortunately, this can be a dangerous site for young children. Parents must take full responsibility for their little ones at all times when outdoors at this site.
Is this cabin pup friendly?
In order to keep noise levels to a minimum and to consider all our guests on-site, we only allow pups at a few sites on this property. If you are looking to bring your pup, check out our Bluebell Cabin.
What electronics can I use at the cabin?
There is one outlet in the kitchen for charging your phone and laptop but charging multiple phones / laptops will drain the cabin’s battery quickly. We DO NOT recommend using the outlet for high voltage items like hairdryers, coffee makers, kitchen appliances, etc. This is a low voltage outlet and power outages will result. Health-related items like CPAP machines cannot be accommodated at our cabins. Feel free to reach out to bookings@cabinscape.com for clarification on what machines/electronics can be used at our cabins.
Is the paddleboard available to use year round?
No. In an effort to ensure safe paddling practices at our cabins, we only offer our paddleboards when the water is at safe temperature (especially important in the event of an unexpected fall). When it is safe to paddle, typically between mid-April and early-November, this cabin comes with a complimentary rental paddleboard, a paddle, and two adult PFDs for our guests to enjoy during their stay.
If you are coming during the shoulder season, and would like to confirm whether the paddleboard will be available for your stay, please reach out to bookings@cabinscape.com with your reservation dates.
