OFF-GRID BASICS
This eco-cabin is completely OFF-GRID. (Don’t let this scare you). Our cabin is modernized and solar powered with electricity and heat. Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so you’ll need to be mindful of your consumption during your stay. There is a back-up generator when solar power is low.
LEAVE NO TRACE
All garbage and recycling must be packed up and taken home on your departure.

BE AWARE
- Cars with 4WD or AWD can recommend for access to this remote cabin. The cabin is located on a newly developed lake, accessed only by a gravel logging road. The road is rugged, steep in sections, take caution with 2WD or low riding cars.
- Guests visiting us mid-November to May should ensure that they have a vehicle equipped with snow tires to access our parking area.
- From mid-December to May this cabin is only accessible via a moderately challenging 3km hike in or via ATV/snowmobile. We also offer a complimentary shuttle service for guests for check in & out, but this must be requested at least 48 hours before a booking.
- This remote cabin shares the area with our Kaya, Willow, Big Rock and Quasi cabins. Our Kaya and Willow cabins are approximately 200 metres apart from one another, located on their own very private lots. That said, you may see others guests out on the water.
FAQs
What makes this location awesome?
This Cabinscape is located in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario, an area best known for their rolling hardwood forests, pristine lakes and extensive wetlands grounded firmly on the Canadian Shield. From Kaya cabin you are just 15-minutes from the main office/lodge at Haliburton Forest with access to their extensive trails, outdoor adventure activities, camp store and restaurant.
When is check-in and check-out?
Entry is by lock-box and key. Check in time is 3 pm. Check-out is 11 am.
What is the shuttle service?
From mid-December to May this cabin is just over a 3km hike-in, as the road is not plowed during the winter. As a result, we are excited to offer a shuttling service for guests who prefer not to hike in, but do not have access to their own snowmobile/ATV. This shuttle service is only available from mid-December until the road reopens in May. This shuttle service is complimentary for guests for their check in & check out. Guest gear will be transported to the cabin via snowmobile or ATV as well. Please note: the fee includes space for up to four individuals and one cargo sled of gear. Additional guests/trips may incur additional fees.
The service runs in 30 minute increments from 1PM-4PM for check-in and 9AM-11:30AM for check out. Guests are able to select their preferred shuttle time through their welcome page which is sent exactly one week in advance of a given booking.
Can I bring my own ATV or snowmobile to access the cabin?
Yes! Guests are welcome to bring their own snowmobile or ATV to access the cabin in the winter. Please bring proof of ownership and a valid license in the event you encounter Haliburton Forest staff on the trails. Keep in mind, without a valid trail pass, snowmobiles and ATVs can only be used on the cabin access road. If you would like to explore the trails at Haliburton Forest, please register your vehicle and purchase a trail pass at Haliburton Forest Main Office, and launch your vehicle from Base Camp.
What if I need assistance during my stay?
We are always just a text away for any questions or assistance. Our on-call property manager lives nearby and can be available on-site when needed.
What should I bring?
- Your own food & drink
- Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets
- Firewood
- Bug repellent
- Hand sanitizer
When is running water shut off?
Our water is pumped from the lake. Running water is shut off when temperatures dip below freezing. This normally happens mid-October but can vary each year. When running water is shut off, we provide 40L of water for dish washing and drinking. All taps (including shower taps) are turned off. Water is turned back on before the May Long Weekend.
Please note that running water will be shut off on October 15th.
Can I bring additional guests?
This cabin can accommodate up to 3 guests. The base rental rate includes 2 guests. A third guest is an additional $25/per night. Please check off 3 guests at checkout.
Is there WIFI/Cell Service?
There is NO WIFI access at the cabin. Cell reception is available but may be spotty. Depending on your carrier, you may be without service in certain parts of the property.
What electronics can I use at the cabin?
There is one outlet in the kitchen for charging your phone and laptop but charging multiple phones / laptops will drain the cabin’s battery quickly. We DO NOT recommend using the outlet for high voltage items like hairdryers, coffee makers, kitchen appliances, etc. This is a low voltage outlet and power outages will result. Health-related items like CPAP machines cannot be accommodated at our cabins. Feel free to reach out to bookings@cabinscape.com for clarification on what machines/electronics can be used at our cabins.
Are there bugs or critters?!
You bet. Depending on the season, you’ll encounter bugs of all sorts. Bugs, rodents and wildlife are a reality of the wilderness. Guests should come prepared with bug spray and proper protective attire. Ticks have also been a major issue across Ontario. Please do your research ahead of time and learn how to properly check yourself for ticks.
While we do our best to protect our cabins from pesky critters by having them seasonally sprayed, critters can sometimes find their way into the cabin. That’s why it’s important to keep your food sealed and stored. If you’re squeamish around bugs or critters, you may want to consider another kind of getaway.
Is this cabin pet friendly?
No, I am sorry. This cabin is not pup friendly. To view our available pet-friendly cabins, select “pet-friendly” when searching your dates.
Is the canoe available to use year round?
No. In an effort to ensure safe paddling practices at our cabins, we only offer our canoes when the water is at safe temperature (especially important in the event of an unexpected capsizing). When it is safe to paddle, typically between mid-April and early-November, this cabin comes with a complimentary rental canoe, two paddles, two adult PFDs and a bailing kit for our guests to enjoy during their stay.
If you are coming during the shoulder season, and would like to confirm whether the canoe will be available for your stay, please reach out to bookings@cabinscape.com with your reservation dates.
